Canberra, October 25 Hon. J. A. Lyoris" has f ormally announced that the Federal Government has decided to mak'e a grant of £3000 to Sir Charles Kingsford Smith. "* An alternative suggestion, to find a positioti for Sir Charles, was considered by Gabin'et, "but it was found that at the present* stage of air development in Australia no service position suitable to a* man of his qualifications was available. ' Furthermqre, the acceptance of a Government appointment -would have prevented Sir. Charles' intended appearance as 'a tenderer for the air tnail co'ntract. * ' Sir Charles, interviewed at Melbourne, said: "This is a wonderful gift ,and the most practical thing at that moment." ■
