N.Z. AFFAIRS
MUCH WIDER INTEREST BEING SHOWN AT HOME. Dr. A. Rose-Innes, who has returaed to Nelson after a visit to Great Britain, when interviewed, siadd that he found New Zealand affairs much mere "widely discussed at Home than had hitherto been the case. Our eff ohts to meet .the changed conditions brought 'about by the depression had been examuned by miany obsexvers, and the leading dailies and financial journals had miore frequent comment on the measures taken by the New Zealand Goveroment. He enoountered a good deial of adverse criticism of the ralte of exchange ibut people with whom he had bailked volunteered the information that they were looldng at the matter purely from the point of view of the British exporlber, and that there might be other consdderations with which they were not acquamted. In sueh ways, Dr. Rose-Innes found a more reasonable and openminded England. New Zealand Produce. In visiting various parts of Great Britain, Dr. Rose-Innes made it his business to inquire about New Zealand produce from retailers and eonsumers. He found that on the whole it was very fiavourahly recsivcd, but in regard to butter, many had said that if it had mere flavour it would be much more keenly sought after. Its ihigh quality, otherwise, was recognised, but the English people prefer- 1 red a mooia tasty butter, and it was thiat faot wihich accounted for the popularity of Danish butter. New Zealand honey was mto st highly prais■ed, as was also New Zealand mubton. It was not difficult to. secure New Zealand apples, lailmioslfc at any sbop, at any rate within 150 miles of London. Some said thei exported fruit suffered in the change after comingi 1 out of the refrigerating chambers aboard ship. New Zealand produce wiais mucih better known now than was the case ndne yeiars ago. The advertising camvpaigns were doing much in this direction.
