(From
Taupo, Tuesday. The monthly meeting of the Taupo 1 Road Board was held last week, Mr. ' J. Loughlin, chairman, presiding. It 1 was resolved that a letter be sent to ! Mrs. H. E. Holland expressing the ' board's sympathy on the occasion of the death of her husband, the late Mr. H. E. Holland, M.P. Mr. C. H. Clinkard, M.P., wrote ; advising that he had handed on the . board's letter regarding the very low allocation for relief workers in Taupo and stating that he would forward the Minister's reply as soon as he received it. It was resolved to reply to Mr. . Clinkard regretting that he had handed the board's letter to the Minister instead of asking the Minister while Parliament was in session, the various auestions submitted, and that if the Minister's reply was not favourable the matter be pursued further. Baths Proposal The Hon. Minister of Finance wrote advising that he had conferred with the Minister of Tourist and Health Resorts in connection with the board's representations regarding "the establishment of thermal baths in Taupo and stating that he regretted that he could see no possibility of the Government providing any funds for the purpose of carrying out the pro- • posed work and suggesting that the board sbould proceed to borrow money by way of a special loan for the purpose of carrying out the work in question. Minister of Lands, he be written to urging upon him the importance and urgency of the matter and suggesting that the board might be able to undertake the work upon a subsidy of £1 for £1 being provided by the Government. It was resolved that the attention of the Hon. Minister of Public Works be drawn to the dangerous state of the road between Taupo and Wairakei, due to its narrowness and numerous sharp bends and suggesting that as the forestry operations, which had absorbed great numbers of relief workers during the winter and spring, were nearing an end for this season, the men could be profitably employed during the summer in improving the road in question. It was resolved that arrangements be made for the hire of a tractor for the haulage. of the board's planer. Accounts totalling £272 4s 5d were passed for payment.
