(Rec. 7 p.m.) Paris, October 24. M. Daladier in his speech in the Chamber. of Deputies, lost no time and wasted no words. He said that France had already devalued her currency by four-fifths and now she must keep it intact. "If you overthrow the Government," he said. "You will not solve the problem. The next Government will be required to face similar obstables and if you smash that too, what will happen?" After the Premier's speech, the sitting wras suspended. The atmosphere in the Chamber was feverish. The Socialists, after a hasty meeting. decided by 55 votes to 45 (with eight absentions) against ac- | ceptance of a compromise offered by the Government in regard to salary cuts. This decision increased the prospects of the Government's defeat.
