GAVE CHAMPAGNE PARTIES.
Sentence of 12 months' imprisonment was passed at Westminster, London, recently, on Richard Gordon Brodie, for stealing property worth £500 from his late employer, Mme. Koeh de Gooreynd, of Belgrave Square. . He VvTas caretaker while she was away in Belgium, and counsel said that Brodie represented hinistlf as her secretary and engaged safe-open-ers, "who helieved they were carrying out legitimate instructions. The safes were rifled of antiques, old silver, jewels, etc. Brodie (continued counsel) also had drinking parties of women, which had gone far to clear the cellar of ch'ampagne. and other wincs. Some of Mme. Gooreynd's jewels were given to his girl friends, some sold as old gold, and a lot pawned. £300 worfch had heen recovered from pawnhrokers.
