LIVING WiAGE REDUCTIONS

— By Telegraph — Copyright).

Sydney, Mjonday. A storm of indignation has been aroused hy the laction of members of the House of Represenfatives in increasing their salaries. On every hand it is suggested that this aetion ishould be revoked or that the Senate should decline to pass the mieasure. It is learned at Ciahberra that if the Senate yields to public opinion and rejects the proposal, the M,inistry will withdraw it. State Ministers are generally surprised at the reduction in the living wage hy 2/- a week, and Cabinet will discuss the subject this week. A section of ithe- Mjinisterialists has sugIgiested that legislation should be introduced to readjust th'e basis of fixing the living wage. While the Government' is showing a disposition ito avoid the reduction ordered by court, a number of business organisations are considering similar action, and one firm has announced that it will not reduce the wages of any employee in accordance with the court's declanation.
