Paris, Oct. 22. The Frce.ch Prime Minister, M. Daladier. faccd opponents of the Budget in the Chamber of Deputies this afternonn. The newspapers of the Right had gleefully anticipated the fall of the Government. M. Daladier. at a meeting with the Radical Socialists, warned them of the dangers of non-acceptance of the Budget. France was being attacked in certain foreign markets, he said, through rumours that she intended to abandon the gold standard. He declared that. the Government would resist inflatinn in any form, and the Budget must be adopted to save the country. The meeting passed a resolution to support the Government. "Take care, France is at the crossroads and may to-morrow be in a perilous position," said M. Lamoureux, Minister of the Budget, opening the fmancial debate, in the Chamber of Deputies, which threatens the continuance of the Government. He urged the House to save the franc and halance the Budget, otlierwise loans. could not be raised, nor could the re-equipment scheme be effeetuated. M. Bonnet, Minister of Finance, emphasised the importance of making- France a sure refuge for capital. The promise of an adjournment till October 23 allayed the feverish excitement in the Chamber, where every gallery was filled. Crowds stoocl in a downpour of rain outside under a i military police guard. ! The crux of the debate will be art1 icle 37, taking civil servants' salaries and workers wagcs 6 per cent., which the Socialists will determinedly oppose. They believe they can defeat the. Government on this issue. M. Daladier, who entered the Chamber smiling and confident, will not submit to protracted bargaining. He stakes the fate of the Government on withdrawals that had been made from the Banlc of France that day. He refused to treat the Bill as a question of confidence. The Chamber adjonrned.
