HORORATA MEMBERS PROTEST AGAINST POLICY MISUNDERSTOOD OBJECTS

Christchurch, Thursday A meeting of the Hororata centre of the New Zealaftd Legion last. everiing carried a resolution: "That as members of tbis centre, we joined the legion urider the impression that it stood for the reform of the system of government and the political education of the peo'ple orily. We regret to see punblished in the newspapers scheriies like that of Dr. Campbell Begg on immigration which although it iriay not have the official apprOval of the legion, is naturally associated in the public : mind witb it. They consider tbat publication has done a consideyable, amount of harm to the legiori's caqse iri this district, and would like to have the _assurar.ee of the national executive that no publicity will in future be given any policies of this kiftd, and with a view to having the importance of rihis matter put before the national executive in a most convincing manner this centre suggests to the executive of the Canterbury division (1) that other centres and the division. be written to asking their support; (2) that the national executive be approached with a petition from the division asking for the assurance mentioned." The mover, Mr. J. W. W. Hall, said sueh a Scheme as this would cause a split in the legion. The seconder, Mr. C. H. Grigg, said Dr. Begg ought to be gagged.The Hororata centre is one of the largest country centres of the legion in Canterbury.
