ANGLICAN SYNOD
ARCHBISHOP ENTERTAINS THE VISITING CLERGY Auckland, Tuesday. In connection with the Auckland Anglican Synod, a conference of clergy was held at 10 a.m., after which the clergy were the guests of' Archbishop Averill and Mrs. Averill at lunch. Iri the afternoon the report of the board of management of the Papatoetoe Orphan Home also was discussed. "The pleasing items in connection with the home's finances," stated the report, "are that we have kept within our estimated expenditure, and that the farm shows a larger profit for the year. On the other hand, our income is considerably less than we hoped it would be. The total amount received in subscriptions is £206 — less than enough to maintain six out of our 85 children. This is the smallest amount of subscriptions received during the past 22 years. The average number of children in the home during the year was 85. Em- | ployment in the country was found for boys leaVing the home, hut at a rate of wages barely sufficient to keep them in clothing' and reasonable poclcet money.
