Auckland, Tuqsday A sensational developfiicnt in co'nnectio'n wi'th the "death of Mrs. Christobel Lakey who was f ound de'ad with her face ihimersed iii a duck-pond oh" her husband's farhi at Hiintly occurr,ed to-day when Dr.'Waddell, of Hamilton, and Dr. McFarlane, of Huntly, discovered traces of poison in the body during the post-mortem examination. The post mortem lasted for an hour ahd a half and was very thorough. . , Beyond , stating that traces of poison were found and that the circumstances -of Mrs. Lakey's death were suspicious, the doctors and police were reticient. The contents of the deceased's stomach were forwarded to Auckland for analysis. The search for .the husband of the dead woman, Samuel Pender Lakey, W.as continued to-day. Superintendent . Till yisited Huntly last night and as a result of his consultations, the police are already on the spot. The police : party arrived ,at Lakey's farm this .morning. Detective Snedden is in charge and he has as assistahts, De- : tective Allsopp ahd teh constables together "\vith nearly 20 settlefs. The pafty thoroughly ahd systematically search'ed the farm and the adjoining pr operties paying particular attention to'an area of scrub and ti-tree fringing Lake Whangape. The search was fruitless, however, the only trace found being a smoking pipe which is believed to be the jproperty of the missing man. : . Huntly, Tuesday. An inquest was opened in Huntly this morning into the^ dtath of Mrs. Christabel Lakey, whose body was found in a pond at Ruawaro yester,day. Mr. F. Harris was .the cor'oner. After evidence of identification had h'een given by Mr. B. Housley, of Huntly, iit was decided- that a post mortem sh-ould be held. The inquest was adjourned sinie die.
