MANAGER OF N.Z. BOARD RETURNS FROM VISIT

Wellington, Monday. The general manager of the New Zealand Broadcasting Board, Mr. E. C. Hands, returned by the Marama from Sydney to-day after a brief visit to Australia. Mr. Hands said that one . of the reasons for his trip was to see the new studios that had been erected at Newcastle by the Australian BroadcastOommission. He had been very much impressed with them. The number of radio licenses in Australia was increasirig rapidly and' ypas now very close to the half milliori mark; The commission was pursuing a policy of importing no'table artists. from abroad 'and there appeared to be n6" douht' that its eff dfts' were imprbvihg the sta'nddrd of the> programm'es and that they were appreciated by the listeners.
