I FARMER SEEKS ASSISTAN.CE WITH HAND BADLY SHOT WIFE ARRESTED
Auckland, Saturday. j A sensation was caused in Pokeno I to-day when a farmer, Mr. George j Thcmas Little, aged 41 years, staggeri ed. 300 yards from his own house to that of a neighbour, with a hand ali most shot to pieces, and when his 1 wife, Mary Little, was later arrested 1 and conveyed to Auckland. After seeking assistance at the , home of the neighbour, Mr. McDon- " ald, when he had barely sufficient strength to ask for help, the unfortunate man was attended by Dr. A. T. Begg, of Pukekohe, and later taken to the Auckland Public Hospital by : car and immediately operated on. The ' hospital doctors found it possible to ; avoid amputation of the hand and I although he suffered severely from ; shock on admission, the patient is j stated to be not in a serious condi- ! tion. j Little was struck hy a discharge from a shotgun as he was walking from a passage into the kitchen ofTiis home. Mrs. Little had gone into the kitchen from the bedroom and after entering the house from outside, where he had been walking, the husband also passed through the kitchen into the front of the house. About lialf a minute later as Mr. Little was coming through the passage door into the kitchen. the report of a shot rang out and he received the full charge I in his hand. He then ran out of the { house. f The police later visited the house i and the door was opened by Mrs. i Little, who was questioned bef ore bei ing taken to Auckland. She is 49 | years of age and will he charged in j the police court to-morrow. Mr. and j Mrs. Little were both well known in ' the district.
