AUCKLAND BRICKLAYER AND INJURIES TO WIFE

— By Telegraph— Copyright).

Auckland, Saturday Without hearing further evidence the Magistrate, Mr. Wjvern Wilson, to-day committed John Shaw Gordon (68),"* brielclayer, for trial on the charge of doing bodily harm to his wife with intent to do grievous harm. Mr. Wilson said the wife objected to giving any evidence. She was in delicate health, and if steps were taken to test the question as to whether she was a eompellable witness it might react on her health. If the prosecution thought it necessary to have her evideiice they could subpoena her as a witness for the reme Court trial, and if she remained obdurate the matter could then be tested in the highest court. Accused pleaded not guilty and reserved his defence.
