Auckland, Sunday. The rocky islet on which Cape Maria Van Diemen lighthouse stands was the scene of a double d'rowning at dusk yesterday, Mrs. Newson, the young wife of one of the assistant lighthouse keepers and Fred. Gage, an assistant lighthouse keeper, being swept off a ledge of rock and drowned in the surf. The victims, with Mr. Newson were fishing. Mr. Newson recovered his wife's body, but Gage's has • not yet been found.
