SCOTT CHALLENGING
WILL LOWER RECORD London, Oct. 11. Flying-Gfficer C. W. S'cott, whose record Sir Charles Kingsford Smith has just lowered, said he will immediately commenee preparations to regain the record: "I'm delighted that my friend 'Smithy' has beaten me, but tell him from me I'm going to try to beat him, though his wonderful performance will make the job hard. It is fitting the record should be established by an Australian who also is the world's finest flier. I intend to try a new record in March or April, and will aim to reach Australia in 6^ days, which seems the utmost possible with planes thus far built." The records for the England-Aus-tralia flight are: — February, 1928. — Mr. Bert Hinkler (151 days). October, 1930. — Sir Charles (then Air-Commodore) Kingsford Smith (10 days 2ifhours 10 minutes). April, 1931. — Flying-Oificer C. W. Scott (9 days 12 hours 45 minutes). November, 1931. — Mr. C. A. Butler (9 days 2 hours 21 minutes). April, 1932. — iFlying-Officer C. W. Scott (8 days 20 hours 34 minutes). October, 1933. — Sir Charles Kingsford Smith (7 days 4 hours 49 minutes) .
