Cheque Lost A visitor to Rotorua yesterday had the misfortune to lose a cheque and a sum of money at Sulphur Point, on tthe lake front. Diligent search afterwards failed to reveal the missing amount, and it is thought that it either blew into the lake or was picked up by a passerby. Anyone finding it should return it to the Rotorua Police } station. Business people are warned j against cashing the cheque which is signed by C. C. Murphy and payable on the Bank of Australasia, Auckland. Payment has been stopped. Old Mair Be'fore Court A labourer, Henry Kidd, aged 62 j /years, appeared before Mr. T. H. j P.loane, J.P., in the Rotorua Court yesterday charged with drunkenness. Th6 police stated that accused wasa newcomer to Rotorua and had been f ound drunk in Haupapa ■ Street by Constahle Kelly on Monday evening. Kidd was convicted and discharged. Theft at Motor Camp A mean theft is reported as having occurred at the Municipal Motor Camp during Monday night when three tyres were stolen from a trailer Ibeloniging to a camping motorist. , •Great inconvenience has been caused the owner of the trailer, as the stolen tyres were a special type which had been obtained in Auckland only after great difficulty. The visiting motorists broke their journey at Rotorua en route to Wellington. Golf Visit Postponed Owing to a visit being made to Cambridge by the Rotorua Club team, the visit of the Motutara Golf Club to the Arikikapakapa links next Sunday has been postponed. The interclub matches will now take place on Sunday, October 29. Waikato Trots •An excellent day's sport is prpj mised trotting enthusiasts at Claude- ' lands on Saturday October 14, when the spring meeting of the Waikato Trotting Club will be held. Good acceptances have Ibeen received and special train arrangements with excursion fares have been made from Rotorua. An advertisement concerning the excursion timetable appears in this issue. Inspection of Volunteers On Wednesday evening, Novemhtr 1, Colonel J. E. Duigan, D.S.O., Officer Commanding- Northern Command, will visit Rotorua for the purpose of inspecting the Rotorua Volunteer Vickers Gun Section at work in the Drill Hall. This will be the first inspection made by the ofiicer commanding since the inauguration of the new volunteer scheme. Swimming Coaching To-morrow Owing to an error, it was incorrectly stated in our issue of yesterday that special coaching would be given to members of the Rotorua Amateur Swimming Club in the Blue Baths to-night. Actually coaching will take place to-morrow night commencing at 7.30 o'clock when the club's coaeh, Mr. J. Perrin, will be in attendance. All financial members and intending members are invited to attend. Methodist Bazaar The "days-of-the-week" bazaar promoted by the Methodist congregation promises to be a thoroughly pleasant entertainment. The stalls will be open for business in the- Peerless Hall at 11 a.m. and a splendid variety of articles will be found there for sale. It will be a genuine opportunity to purchase cheaply and at the same time help a good cause. A capital programme of fun has been provided for. This was proved to the satisfaction of the big attendance at tbe Ritz on Saturday night and the presenee of Mr. Cole in the band is certain to further popularise this well-known dance rendezvous* Following improvements to the paths and bridges the Waiotapu Thermal Reserve-has been taken over by Capt. Walker, late of Tikitere, and is now open to visitors. The Waiotapu Reserve is one of the most interesting thermal areas and at the same time one of the least known in the locality and its opening provides another outstanding tourist attraction for the district.
