N.Z. TOURNAMENT

SECOND QUALIFYING ROUND PLAYED ON TITIRANGI COURSE B. MENZIES STILL LEADING Auckland, Saturday. The second round of the open golf championship of New Zealand, which decided the competitors to compete •in the final two qualifying rounds to be played on Monday, was played at Titirangi to-day. Following Monday's play the 36 amateur, and the 16 leading professionals with the best aggregate, will be drawn to contest the titles in both sections. With a fairly strong northerly wind, the conditions to-day were more difficult than on Friday and this was revealed in the cards returned. It was necessary to exercise control on •every shot and the greens were playing fast. The best round of the morning — and it was not b.eaten — was 72 by the Shirley professional H. Blair. He was followed' by J. D. Mclntosh, professional champion of 1926 and 1927, with 74, while another' professional, 5E. J. Moss, of Middlemore, was one stroke worse with 75. A big gallery watched Shaw, who followed half an hour behind Blair, as he was the only one who was cdnsidered likely to emulate Blair's performance. However, he took 78 for his round. Menzies, who topped the list yesterday with a brilliant 71, retained his position at the head of the qualifying list with an aggregate of 149. He was followed by Blair and Mclntosh with 151, and Shaw and Moss were the next, each one stroke worse. Aggregate- Scores Scores: —
