Borough Museum "There will be no ctifficulty in arrangirig for the museum/' said the mayor (Mr. T. Jackson), at the meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council on Friday evening, when referring to the proposal of the Library Committee to establish a Museum in the Carved House at Whakarewarewa. Smash at Fairy Springs A baby car, believed to be driven by a visiting Auckland commercial traveller, was badly smasbed when it was involved in a collision with a car containing a party of Maoris in the vicinity of * Fairy Springs at about 10 p.m. on Saturday. The two cars met on the short hill on the Ngongotaha side of Fairy Springs the chassis and bodywork of the smaller car being severely twisted as a result of the collision. The larger car, driven by Mr. C. Kereopa, of Whakarewarewa, received much lighter damage and was able to be driven into Rotorua. Nobody was" teftured. Junior in Borough Office At Friday evening's meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council, the resignation of Mr. J. Godsalve as office junior in the Council office was accepted. Mr. N. Hinton was appointed to the vacancy from 16 applicants. Summer Time Commences Summer time became operative in the Dominion yesterday morning, I standard time being advanced officialI ly by 30 minutes at 2 a.m. In Rotoj rua most people made the change be- ' fore retiring on Saturday night, and with a few exceptions, such as latecomers to churCh services, the change was ushered in with a minimum of inconvenience. Standard time will again be reverted to on the morning of S'unday, March 18, 1934. Trout Tagged The tagging of about 200 trout of varying weights from one pound to seven pounds was carried out in various parts of the Rotorua district last week. The object of tagging is to secure migratory and other records which may provide data useful to the | acclimatisation offieers. A small alloy tag attached to the dorsal fin of the fish is used and the Conservator of Fish and Game (Mr. A. Kean) requests that anglers taking any tagged fish should carefully weight and measure them and forward the details direct to him. ■Mayor Thanked At Friday night's meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson) reported that during his recent visit to Wellington to attend a meeting of the executive of the Municipal Associatiou, he had interviewed various departmental offieers in connectjon with borough matters. Among the subects discussed had been the conversion of a portion of the borough's loan indebtedness, the question of jurisdiction in th'e administration of Pukeroa domain, and the subdivision of a portion of the Cemetery Reserve under the Small Farms Act. The Mayor was thanked for his efforts in these matters and on the motion of the deputy-mayor (Cr. E. T. Johnson) the council's appreciation was recorded on the. minutes. Undefended Actions. Judgment by default was given by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in tbe Rotorua Magistrate's Court on Monday in the following cases: — Commissioner of Taxes v. K. M. Fraser £1/8/7, costs 8/-; M. Scarse v. Bon Green £7, costs £1/10/6; T. E. McLarn v. Waa Aranga £8/8/4, costs £1/15/6; G. A. Gamman and Co., Ltd. v. Kate Jones, married woman, having separate estate, £9/1/1, costs £2/2/6; B. Green was ordered to pay the.Crown tbe sum of £13AL9/4 with £1/1/costs in default/ 13 days imprisonment. Kukume/Haira was ordered to pay L. Mitton £20/5/8 with £1/1/costs forthwith in default 21 days; Te Ku Kukume was ordered to pay L. Mitton £9/19/5 with 15/6 costs in default 9 days gaol and Charles V/. Green was ordered to pay James Johnston Ltd. £4/9/10 in default 4 days imprisonment.
