COLLEEN'S LETTER
Dear Kiddies, — We are very lueky people really, beeause another friend of the Page has given me a splendid hook as a special prize for the member having the most number of merit eards at the end of the year. It is Greyfriar's Holiday Annual, with all th'ose stories ahout the Bunters that I remember I used to enjoy at school. So[ we have another prize well worth working for. Entries were very good again this week, especially in the senior section; the first prize limerick and the second ai'e particularly good. Talking of limericks, I found that quite a number of you' did not realise that there is a set form for this type of verse. The first two lines must rhyme, then the second two, and the fifth line must rhyme with the first two. Here is the old one, a typical example: — There was a young lady of Riga, Wlho rode with a smile on a tiger; They returned from the ride, With the lady inside, And the smile on the face of the tiger. I asked you for limericks because I thought that this would be a form of verse known to you all, but apparently some of you did not realise quite what was wanted. I have a big apology for Frances . Clay. Frances' verse, which won the first prize last week, was somehow 01* other jumbled in the type and rather spoiled. So I am pubiishing it again correctly, for it would not bs ' fair to Frances to leave it the way it was. I seem*to be all apologies this week, for I have to have to say "sorry" again for the membership certificates. Mr. Printerman was really apologetic too, and when he showed me all the work he had to get through hefore | the end of the week I really had not the heart to persist. But he has .given me his word (and Printermen never hreak their word) that we are to have them for next week. And here is some more good news. I am not very pleased with our heading design for the page and we are to have a new and mueh nicer one made. It is being done now and should he here shortly. One last reminder. After your •splendid effort lin Ithe membersh/pr competition, I have had only one new member. We have st-ill 1*00111 for heaps more and I do hope you will stil] try to inrerest your friends. A merit card will be given for eaeh three new members sent- in and you must write your pen-name on the top of each coupon so that I will know who has sent in the new rqcruit.
