MOTORISTS COMPLAIN OF LiGHT SENTENCES QN ' THIEVES

Dunedin, Thursday. "If the Government will not wake up and do the right thing about the conversion oi cars, motorists will have to take the law into their own hands, even if imprisoned for it," said Mr. F. W. Johnston, presidpnt of the South Island Motor Union, at the annual meeting of the Qtago Mpfor Club. Personally, he was prepa^ed to do this, and inflict his own p.unis^l: ment if the need arose. He was convinced that conversion or car stealing should he nn indict: able offence. Another speaker said the Gqyernment, by its light penalties, was breeding a race of young cripiipals.
