SEASON PROSPECTS EARLY COMMENCEMENT OF ROTORUA CLUB ACTIVITIES LABOUR^DAY MEETING I With the approach of the track season, athletes in Rotorua are keenly anticipating the opening of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club's activities and there. are indications that the success of the past year will be eclipsed" during the' approaching season. As far as is known at present, the majority of last year's competitors will again be competing in the club c'ompetition, and in addition there are others wh« will be making their debut this season on the Rotorua track. Following an interesting road raeing season, it is anticipated that the strength of the cycling section of the club will be almost doubled this season on the track, and with most riders in good fettle, fast times should be recorded from the start of the season. In the field events, three promising ' competitors, M. Herewini, A. G. Hickey and J. Christophers will make a reappearance in this branch of the sport, which is expected to become very popular this season. In view of the annual meeting of the elub to be held to-morrow evening the early eommencement of the season with the first points prize competitions, intending competitors would be well advised to make early training preparation. Club at Whakatane Advice has been received by the Rotorua club that an amateur club has been formed at Whakatane where an open meeting will take place on Labour Day, October 23. The Whakatane committee has applied to the Rotorua club for advice and assistance in controlling the meeting, and have offered an invitation for Rotorua officials to co-operate. Advice was also received yesterday from the secretary of the Waikato sub-centre advising that preparations are being made for the coming season, and endorsing a list of dates for the season.
