IDLE AUSTRALIAN WORKS MASS OF SMOK'E AND FLAME MUST TAKE ITS COURSE
— By Telegraph — Oopvright).
Sydney, Sept. 27. The great Cobar copper mine at Cobar, which had been idle for some years, is -on fire. It is believed that somebody set fire to the ore bins. The poppet head was also set alight. It was burned to the ground, and the flames descended the shaft, dense clouds of ehoking fumes being given oflt. The smoke has enveloped the town. Nothing can be done to extinguish the fire, which will probably burn to the water's level in the mine.
