NEW BOWLING CENTRE

BAY OF PLENTY DELEGATES HOLD CONFERENCE AT WHAKATANE OFFJCERS- ELECTED Delegates representing the Bay of Plenty bowling clubs held a reeent meeting at Whakatane to consider the advisability of forming a Bay of Plenty Bowling Centre to organise and control the game in the district. The Rotorua Club delegates were Messrs J. MlcDowell and C. R. Tapper, other clubs represented being Whakatane, Te Puke, Tauranga, Tauranga South, Opotiki, Opotiki Citizens', Taneatua and Katikati. After the advantages of the formation of a separate centre had been placed before the meeting and fully discussed, it was unanimously decided to approve the project, and the iollowimg' officers were elected for the coming season: President, Mr. C. : Loane (Whakatane); vifce-president, Mr. C. N. Chamberlain (Whakatane); secretary-treasurer, Mr. W. W. P. Hall (Rotoroa); executive, Messrs Ruddick, C. Downard (Taneatua), J. -Gibberd, A. Nicol and T. A. Hogg (Whakatane). It was decided that the permanent headquarters of the centre shouid be at Whakatane, the ex«cutive meetings alternating yearly between the various towns according to the alloeation of the Francis Cup competitions, During the coming season the Francis Cup tournament will be held at Whakatane from January 1 to o. Following a short discussion it was also decided to inaugurate a ehampion of champions tournament between the champions of the various clubs eaeh season. It is stipulated that the club championships must be completed prior to Easter in each season, the deciding centre tourr.ey being held on lEaster Saturday. For the coming season the tourney will also be held at Whakatane. It was stated that the delegates present were representative of approximately 400 bowlers in the area to be controlled by the centre.
