Trout Liberations

Upwards of 700,000 fry have been taken from the Ngongotaha trout hatchery during the past few days and liberated in the various streams and lakes of the district. The following liberations have been made to date: Lake Rotorua, 700,000 Rotoiti, 500,000; Rotoehu, 125,000; Taahunatara Stream, 200,000; Waimana Stream, 50,000; Green Lake, 50,000, Lake Waikaremoana and Lake Taupo, 500,000 ( appr oximately ) „ The hatchery is at present full to capacity, a consignment of 900,000 ova having arrived yesterday from Tokaanu. It is reported that fish appear to be plentiful m all district waters and that there is no scareity of feed. An early run of smelt has been observed in Lakes Rotoiti and Rotoehu.
