London, Sept. 20. Riotous scenes were witnessed when the Government tried to auction six cows seized for the non-payment of a Tiperary . farmeiJs rates. Hun- | dreds of farmers thronged the ring and were amazed when a man, calling himself John Brown, bid £14. He proved to be a policeman and was the only bidder. He secured,the cattle and was at once attacked by the irate anti-de Valera farmers. His coat was torn, his trousers removed, and the crowd attempted to belabour him with sticks. Civic Guards rushed to the spot and escorted the policeman, while farmers chaired the cattle owner and
sang "Tipperary." Somebody shouted: "Put up Dev. for sale." Many of the farmers belong to the Centre party, led by Mr. McDermott, which is now part of the United Irelancl party.
