TELEPHONE EMPLOYED TO INDICATE DEATH PLEASE HOLD THE LINE

(Rec. 7.15 p.m.) New York, Sept. 15. Mr. Bernard Butterfield, aged 26, local commercial agent for Reuter's Agency Ltd., committed suicide in his apartment to-day. He telephoned his assistant, Mr. Alan Trover, at Reuters' office, and said: "Will you please hold the line •a. minute?" Mr. Trover then heard a detonation and on hurrying to Mr. Butterfield's apartment found that he had shot himself through the mouth with a shot-gun.
