TWO MEN SENTE]MCED tO IMPRISONMENT FOR LIFE SHOOTING AT BONDI

In the criminal court, Claude Wallace, aged 25, a motor mechanie, and Eric Newlyn, were convicted of the manslaughter of Mr. Rowlands at Bondi on May 18, and sentenced to lTie imprisonment. Wallace's defence was that he did not know that the revolver was loaded while Newlyn declared that he did not know that Wallace had a revolver. The two men held up Mr. Rowlands on the night of May 18 when he was
returning from a Masonic banquet, Wallace attempted to rob him and when Rowland hurled a suitcase at him, fired killing him. Newlyn was driving the car and was not actually present when the shot was fired.
