ROTORUA REPRESENTATIVES BEATEN IN RAGGED, GAME MARGIN OF JELEVEN FOINTS The match between Pio Pio and Rotorua played at Arawa Park on Saturday resulted in a win for the visiting team by 20 points to 9 after a display that at no stage could he termed interesting. Despite the faet that the home rearguax'd, with the exception of one player consisted of juniors, the visitors did not predominate in this department for they did not initiate one back movement throughout the whole of the game 'but relied on stab kicks and forward rush'es in. which their backs also took I part and hy these xneans they secI ured their four tries, the remainder | of their points being the result of two penalty kicks and one convert. Rotorua's points were the result of three unconverted tries. With the exception of Cooper and Hulton, the Rotorua packmen xnade a poor showing and right from the kick-off, the . visiting f orwards went hot to the attack and within ten minutes of the commencement of play opened their account from a strong forward rush led by Casey and Johnson. The latter eluded the home full- ' back to dribhle on over the line, fall on the ball and score well out. Rotorua shortly evened up the points from a serummage in their own 25 when Cooper and Graham broke through with the ball at the toe. Graham seeured the leather and in a 50 yards sprint outpaced the opposit'ion to score in a handy position. Cooper was ,in support the whole of the journey. Hinton was responsible for opening up the play and started several passing rushes which broke down through lack of combination and nullified any likely scoring. Pio Pio put on two more tries, one of which was converted, in the fix-st spell and a nice try by Cooper who was served by Taiapa made the halftirne score read Pio Pio 11, Rotorua 6. Shortly after the resumption of
play the visitors gained a penalty kick and Coffin raised the flags with a nice kick. After a spell of ragged play the visitors scored a further try by means of Faulke who ran hehind the posts making Pio Pio 17, Rotorua 6. For the remainder of the game, play was scrappy with many infringements, the visitors gaining another penalty kick. Right on the call of time, Cooper seeured from a serummage on Pio Pio's line and scored alongside the posts, the game ending with the score Pio Pio 20, Rotorua 9. Mr. L. Clarke was the referee. Kaharoa defeated Ngongotaha by | 12 points to 8.
