DISTRIBUTING COMPANIES ANNOUNCE FURTHER REDUCTION DOWN PENNY A GALLON

Auckland, Tuesday. A reduction in the wholesale price of petrol by ld a gallon for first and second grades was announced yesterday by the principal distributing companies. However, owing to the e.xtensive price-cutting indulged in by local service stations, it is not thought that there will be any general reduction in retail prices. It was stated yesterday that first grade petrol was being sold at various garages at prices ranging from ls lOd to ls 8d a gallon. The principal of one of the distributing companies said many garage proprietors were selling petrol at cost and merely . . working on their discount. Wellington, oMnday. A meeting of petrol resellers this evening decided to reduce the retail price of first grade petrol by one penny a gallon and second grade twopence. The new prices "are ls 9d and ls 7d a gallon respectively. >
