big prospective saving for the dairy industry BLUE STAR OPERATING
-By Telegraph— Co pyright.) .
Wellington, Tuesday. Cabled advice concerning the new refrlgerated cargo freight rates was received from the shipping companies to-day by the Dairy and Meat Export Boards. No official statement was available to-day as eables had to be sent to England in order to obtain confirmation of certain figures. It is authoritatively stated, however, that the new freight rates which will operate from Friday, represent a reduction of approximately 7 per cent. on recent rates. The butter rate will be reduced from 4s a box, less 15 per cent. to 4s a box, less 21 per cent. It is estimated that the annual saving on dairy produce represented by the new rate will be approximately £124,000. It is understood that there is a provision in the new contract that if the exchange rate falls below 10 per cent the c.ost will be borne by the boards and the shipping companies in certain definite proportions. The new contract provides that the Blue Star line is to obtain a share of the trade and it is understood that this line will shortly open an office in Wellington and in other New Zealand port towns. The first homeward loading from New Zealand will be made by the big motor ship, Tusean Star, in November.
