THE OLDEST SOLICITOR

DIED "IN HARNESS.' The oldest solicitor on the English rolls, still practising, was Mr. R. Phillip Upton, who died "in harness" at his office in Lincoln's Inn Fields, London, at the age of 82. He had been , in active pratice for 61 years, but was making preparations to. retire when he collapsed. Mr. Upton's legal career was one of the loiigest on reeord. He was articled when he was .16. He passed his final examination when he was 20, and had to wait until he came of age before reeeiving ,his eertificate. He was connected with the famous case in 1884, which established that husbands were not always liable for their wives' dehts.
