Licensing Private Ballrooms
At the last meeting or the Rotorua Borough' Council the question was raised of the holding of certain public dances in Brent's private ballroom. In fairness to Brent's proprietary it should be made known that on no occasion has a charge been made for the use of the room. On the odd occasions when public dances have been held there the ballroom has been donated free of all charge. Recently the Rotorua Basketball Association was granted the free use of the room on the occasion of the visit of the Auckland team, and the Rotorua High School Parents' Association was granted the same privilege. The feeling has been expressed in several quarters that it is unreasonable that generosity such as this should not be appreeiated and that even in a tourist resort like Rotorua the courtesy of extending the free use of a private ballroom should be prohibited by Act of Parliament.
