(Rec. 7.50 p.m.) DuhHn, August 25;. General O-Duffy's engagement to address the Nafional Guard Assoeiation at. Waterford To-wn Hall was abandone.d after the Government proclaimed the meeting illegal. Two hundred civie guards occupied thq hall prior to the arrlval of General O'Duffy, who conferred with the police , super ipt en dent and announced that the meeting would not be held. Blue Shirt supporters had eontended that the association as an auxiliary of the. National Guard was excluded from the ban, hut the Government announced that the associate members Of the National Guard were included in the ban and therefore that the activity of the women's and youths' hranches were illegal. General O'Duffy,. from Ihe steps of the Waterford Hotel announced the abandonment of the meeting and was greeted' with cheers from both sec-r tion's. The crowd attacked a man helieved to be a member of the National Guard. The police drew thejr batons and disarmed several men who had sticks concealed under their coats. General O'Duffy decided to stay - the night. He intends proceeding with the other meetings arranged' for Friday and Saturday.
