i New York, August 22. At Chesnut Hills (Massachusetts), Turnbull and Quist defeated the local players Turner hrothers, 6-1, 6-3, 6-1, in the first round of the Na-tion-al douhles. Turnbull's and Quist's match was without event, the Australians' victory being indicated from the very first, although one of the Americans had an exceptionally vigorous service which troubled Quist, his returns heing alinost uniformly defensive. | Crawford and McGrath won by default from T. Flynn (Long Island) and J. Ray (Cambridge, Massachusetts), but being badly in need of practice, played informally with various cluh memhers to-day. -
