SUICIDE AT BREAKFAST
PSYCHOLOGIST'S DELUSIONS. A story of a retired doctor's suicide by narcotic poisoning while sitting with his wife at breakfast was told at a St. Pancras (London) inquest on Henry Charles Samuel, aged 54, of Downshire Hill, Hampstead, N.W. "While we were having breakfast," said Mrs. Samuel, "my husband suddenly drank from a bottle, and exclaimed 'I have done it'." Dr. Shaw, of Wimpole Street, W., said Dr. Samuel was obsessed with the idea that he was suffering from innumerable diseases, and was such an expert psychologist that he was difficult to convince. "He used to sit for hours watching his muscles twitch," said Dr. Shaw. "When he thought he had cancer I had him thoroughly examined in hospital, . but no traee of the disease was found." A verdict of suicide while of unsound mind was returned.
