Tennis observers, who aceompanied Ellsworth Vines, United States champion, through Europe and were with him at Newport iast week are not very hopeful of his chances in the.national singles tourney on Monday if he meets Jack Crawford, of Austrar lia, and they cpnsider that Fred Perry (England) and Shields (America) are oniy a little less dangerous to Vines in defending his title.
