(Rec. 8.45 p.m.) Sydney, August 18. Australian manufacturers are appreliensive regarding the Christmas toy trade as tbey realise that tbey liave no chance of competing against the Japanese landed priees. The president of the Chamber of Manufacturers, Mr. H. Gordon Bennett, said that if Japan is successful in her proposed drive to flood the Australian market with toys, Australian workmen in the toy industry, will have a very lean Christmas. The Federal Minister of Trade and Customs, Mr. White, speaking at Canberra, said that the Commonwealth Government was keeping a close watch on the threatened flooding of the market by Japanese toys and if evidence could be established to make out a prima facie case ^ of dumping or proposed dumping, action would be taken immediately.
