MAJESTIC THEATRE
TO-NIGHT. Clark Gable and Jean Harlow, platinum blonde charmer of the screen, I are seen together for the second time in their bareers in "Red Dust," drama i of Indo-China, which heads the pro- ! gramme at the Majestic Theatre toni'ght. Miss Harlow played opposite Gable j in one of her first important pictures, ' "The Secret Six." Since then, both j have been qatapulted to major fame. Gable scoxed an outstanding hit iii "Hell Divers" as did Miss Harlow in "The Beast of the City." "Red Dust," based on Wilson Collison's successful stage play, is a romantic adventure story laid amid the' rubber plantations of Indo-Ch'ina. The screen version was filmed on a pretentious scale with one of the largest settings ever constructed at the Met-ro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. The plantation setting alone occupiedi an entire s'ound stage and contained eight separate rooms built around a large compound garden. Porches, mat roofs, and~ flooring of rough hewn timber construction were duplicated from photographs of buildings in the little known district which1 serves as a -locale for the plot. A complete rubber factory was erected as part of the authentic background, this setting requiring gallons of ra.w rubber sap, imported in sealed cans from Africa and South America. The actual process of congealing the rubber with acetic acid is shown before the camera. Supporting Gable and Miss Harlow in "Red Dust" is a, cast which features Gene Ra.ymond, Mary Astor, Donald Crisp, Tully Marshall, Forrester Harvey and. Willie Fung. Arrangements have been made for Madam Cora Melvin and Mr, Norman Day to makes a personal appearance at the Majestic on Saturday night in | popular items.
