(Rec. 11 p.m.) Chicago, August 16. Two gangsters, believed to be members of a kidiiapping gang with wide fathifications, made a sensational escape from an elabotate trap laid by Federal agents armed with maehine guns and assisted by an aeroplane. The gangsters had demanded a further payment of 50,000 dollars from Jake Factor, who was • receiltly kidnapped, and who in this case enlisted the assistance of the police. A detective, disguised as a messen*ger boy, was given the money to take to a roadside resort. When he paid the money over he was to give a signal to an aeroplane which tvould be flying in the vicinity and the plane would radio the police who would then close all routes in the neighbourhood. The kidnappers took the money and then started out in an automohile to mako their escape. The plane broadcasted the warning and the pilot then dipped low and began to fire at the automohile with a maehine gun. Meanwhile a score of police. in cars went iuto action also with ma'chine .guns and fired upon the gangsters, wrecking the car. In spite of this, however, the two occupants succeeded in making their escape on foot through' the underbrush skirting the road. It was stated that only a few bills were given to the gangsters for the purpose of obtaining evidence if they were caught.
