Final details of the sports and entertainment programme are now being completed, various members of the committee having been 1 placed in charge of different sections j of the programme. i j White Butterflies j The ravages of the white butterfly ! in certain portions of the Dominion I have an important bearing on the , food of stock, and the Meat Producers' Board has received resolutions from sheepfarmers' organisations deI claring that this pest is a menace to the fat stock industry The board has gone fully into the matter with the Department of Agriculture, and has decided to make a grant of £150 to supplement the activities of the department's Plant Research S'tation j at Palmerston North. This will enj able additional su^plies of the insect J parasite to. be provided to keep down • the butterfly, and if possible to pre- | vent its spread into other parts of : the Dominion. Dairy Payout The Tauranga Co-operative Dairy Association will pay out to suppliers i on tho 20th inst., ninepence per lb. for butterfat of first grade supplied during the month of July. The King's Highway "One final and important matter to be considered is the highway — the King's Highway," said Mr. M. H. Hampson in addressing the Appeal Board on Tuesday. "The King's Highway," he said, "always has and always will be for the reasonable use of the public. It is' the privilege of the State to limit unnecessary traffic on the King's Highway, but only if that traffic is unnecessary. It is the right and privilege of every travelle-r to nse the King's Highway. It is not for any inspector to approach the traveller who is lawfully on the King's Highway whether travelling on foot, on horse, or by motor car, and I deny his right so to travel until he | can produce evidence that he has paid j his proportion of the cost of the high- | way. It is not now for my friend the j counsel for the Railway Department, i and I hope, the time will never come, ! when he will be able to challenge the : right that has existed from the very J commencement of our common law I — the ordinary right and privilege of j the citizen to the fair and reasonable , use of the King's Highway." i 1 Orphans' Club i The usual weekly meeting of the ! Rotorua Orphans' Club will be held | in the Druids' Hall this evening. The question of the school has been under consideration for some time past and while Mr. Clinkard has taken up no particular attitude with regard to the various proposals he. has been anxious to have the matter finalised. The Minister will also inspect the Atiamuri Road and probably go over the Ngakuru bloclcs. It is expected that he will also visit Galatea before leaving via Taupo for the Chateau Tongariro.
