CHRISTCHURCH PRINTER FINED j FOR PUBLISHING PAMPHLET Christchurch, Friday. Charles Harrison Phillips pleaded guilty to-day to printing a paper for distribution and omitting to print on j it his name and place of abode. The police stated that a pamphlet | called "The Strike Now Definitely | On" came under their notice. The phamphlet was published by defend- } ant, and did not comply with the j Act. Defendant had admitted print- j ing one thousand copies for a man . named O'Reilly, who was one of the ! leaders of the Communist Party in j Wellington. They looked on such matters as rather serious, because if there was anything seditious or unlawful in the pamphlets they were unable to trace the printers. Defendant stated to the Magis- ! trate that he had no intention of ' breaking the law. The magistrate remarked that the . Statute provided a minimum fine of i £5.- He imposed this, with costs. j i
