Auckland, Wednesday. Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Auckland, report: — At our weekly Westfield fat stoek market to-day ox beef was yarded in under average numbers for which there was a steady demand and values again ruled at late rates. Cow and heifer beef also were penned in usual numbers, meeting with a ready : sale at values fully equal to late rates. Our offering of cow and heifer beef was a very high-class one, being composed practically wholly of sta-tion-bred cattle. Calves were again yarded in short numbers. Competition was keen, especially for good quality calves, the values of which show a further improvement on last week's quotations, while plainer calves sold at fully late rates.
Extra choice ox sold to 21s per 1001b.; choice and prime, 18s to 20s; just killable, 15s to 17s; prime young cow and heifer beef, 17s to 20s; just killable beef, 13s to 16s; extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £7 7s 6d to £8 5s. Lighter prime steers made £6 15s to £7 5s; light prime, £5 10s to £6 12s 6d; small and unfinished, £4 5s to £5 5s. Calves. — Runners, £1 10s to £2 4s; no quality runners were penned. Heavy vealers, £3 6s to £3 10s; medium vealers, £2 11s to £2 17s; light, £1 12s to £2 5s; small, £1 5s to £1 10s; small and fresh dropped, 4s to £1 3s; rough calves, 12s to £1.
