— By Telegraph — CnpiTlgnt).
Rec. Apgust 1, 5.5 p.m. London, July 31. A suggestion ,has been made that as the restriction of imports of produce into the United Kingdom and the imposition of produce quotas affects only the farmers of the Mother Country and the .Dominions, and is not a matter involving any trade controversy over tariffs, that rqpresentatives of the farmers in the Dominions and Britain should come together to discuss the common problems. On the other hand, it is said that British farmers do not appreeiate what the application of quotas would mean to the Dominion producers while as against that, it is contended that the Dominion farmers do not realise the competition that the British agr.iculturist and dairy farmer is compelled to meet from abroad. Major W. E. Elliot, British Minister of Agriculture, is at present giving this matter consideration. He is undoubtedly impressed with the representations which have made to him by Messrs" Forbes and Masters with regard to the difficulties which would be created in the Dominions and the effect upon their production if restrictions were imposed. Major Elliot had a final interview with the Dominion delegates on Saturday after which he left for Scotland. To-day, Mr. Masters meets the representatives of thje Belgian Government in London and to-morrow he will meet the representatives of the Indian Government in connection with the extension of New Zealand trade to that country. He is asking a lowering of the Indian tariffs against New Zealand.
