No Bar Drinking The disciplinary body at Oxford University was an expensive one with which to come in contact, Dr. A. L. Haslam stated during an address to members of the Canterbury College Graduates' Association. For some unknown reason, the speaker declared, undei'graduates were not permitted to enter hotel bars. The Proctor of the University paraded in full-dress, followed by a bevy of "bulldogs"— little men of rotund figures with bowler hats — and if any young man was seen to emerge from a bar he would be accosted and asked if he were a member of the university. His name and the name of his college would be taken and he would appear before the Proctorial Committee to be fined— anything from £1 to £5. If the student attempted to escape he had not mueh hope on the cobble-stones, for the "bulldogs" were exceedingly fleet of foot and were rarely lcnown to miss thedr quarry. Even cross-country champions had fallen into their clutches on varions occasions.
