RUGBY UNION
WEEKLY MEETING OF THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE NECESSITY FOR TRAINING The weekly meeting of the management committee of the Rotorua. Rugby Sub-Cnion was held in the Citizens' Club rooms last evening, the president, Mr. T. S. Robertson, occupying the chair. A letter was received from Mr. Bateman, of Hamilton, who until recently represented Rotorua on the Waikato Rugby Union, expressing his disapproval of the Rotorua Union's attitude in displacing him as its delegate. He pointed out that he had only missed arttending one meeting of the Waikato Union during his appointment and if the Rotorua Union had heard otherwise they were misin-fox-med. Messrs. Anderson and L. Clarke were both of the opinion that the union had been misinformed and if Mr. Bateman was present at the meetings referred to an apology was due to him. On the motion of Mr. Clarke the secretary was instructed accordingly. The manager of the representative team in the Findlay Cup match reported that the team did not play up to expectations especially after the brilliant display shown by the forwards against Waipa and Morrinsville. In his opinion there was lack of stamina and combination. He appealed to the union for the provision of training cofnveniences and the engagement of a coach. Unless this was seriously considered he felt that Rugby in the district would not reach the standard anticipated. The president in reply stated that it was hard to get the players to-
gether as they were so scattered and could not leave their jobs when required. At the sanxe time he felt there was some dissent among the selectors and they were not worlcing together as amicably as could be wished. The three selectors replied to the president's statement each expressing a different view on the matter. Mr. Clarke asked the selectors if they had met as a selection committee and was informed that they had not. Mr. Webb inquired if it would not be possible to select 15 players in Rotorua and get them down to solid training instead of having to rely on players who were scattered and could not be relied upon. Mx\ Clarke supported Mr. Webb, pointing out that the only players who would get in the team would be those who were able to train. The matches for Saturday are as f ollows : — Taianui-Maniapoto Challenge Cup Whakatohea v. Te Arawa, No. 1 ground, 3 p.m. (Mr. R. Mason). Curtain-raiser : Takapuna v. Ro-tox-ua High School, No. 1 ground, 1.30 p.m. (Dr. W. S. Wallis).
