(Press Assn.-
YOUTH CHARGED WITH ATTEMPT TO MURDER
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
Auckland, Thursday. The shooting of James Pennington Bates, garage proprietor, at Mercer, about 10 p.m. on April 14, was recalled at the Supreme Court to-day when Christopher Niven, a youth of 19 years, was charged with the attempted murder of Bates. Mr. N. Hubble, for the Crown, told the jury that although there were five counts against the accused they should chiefly consider the charges of attempted murder and of discbarging a revolver with intent to disable. Evidence is being heard.
