sequel to events SEAMEN ON IONIC SENT TO PRISON FOR DISOBEDIENCE FIREMAN GETS NINE MONTHS | London, July 25. As a sequel to events while atWellington, William Evans, a fireman aboard the Ionic, was sentenced to nine months' imprisonment at the Eastham police court, and 24 others to three weeks' hard labour, following their conviction for combining to disobey lawful commands. The prosecution said the Ionic was lying alongside the Mahia, whose boatswain quarrelled with the crew, after iwhich one committed suicide and an inquiry was held. The boatswain was blameless but resigned. The Ionic's captain offered him a passage, whereupon Evans told the officers that the defendants would leave if the boatswain were a passenger, resulting in the Ionic sailing only after the Mahia's boatswain left.
