Wellington, Wednesday The fact that the time is approaching when a complete and impartial survey of the organisation of local government in New Zealand will have to he carried out was emphasised by the acting-Prime Minister,- Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, speaking at the New Zealand Counties' Association luncheon to-day. The hurdien of expendituire was bearing too heavily upon Nriw Zealand's ma.in industry— farming— and it was their duty to see that -the policy of the Government was put in'to effect as effectively and as economically as possible. There was room for the elimination of quite a number of minor local authorities and the whole question of local body 'government was ofte that had heen occupying himself and his colleagues for soriie' time past. . .
