SATURDAY'S RUGBY GAMES PLAYED IN HEAVY RAIN

Nothwithstanding the drenching rain that continued to fall throughout the afternoon on Saturday, both the junior and senior fixtures were carried out to schedule. There was a scattered attendance of spectators who viewed the play from the shelter of the stand and adjacent trees. In the Mitchell Shield knockout competition Rotoiti def eated Waikite by 9 points to three in a game l that was necessarily a forward tussle. Each side registered a try in the first spell, Rotoiti gaining a brace of tries in the second half, while Wailcite failed to improve their position. Whaka failed to field a team in their match against Waiariki who took the field and kicked off thus winning by default. This leaves Rotoiti and Waiariki to fight out the final of the Mitchell Shield. In the junior grade Kahukura 8, def eated Utuhina nil. Rotoiti A beat High School by the margin of four points, the final score being 9 — 5. Wins were registered by Old Boys B against Okere, and Kaharoa against Ngongotaha, while Awahou defaulted to Waikite.
