Opossum Trapping , Reports received by Mr. A. Kean, Conservator of Fish and Game, during an offieial tour of the district, indicate that opossum trapping operations have been exceedingly quiet during the past few weeks. Hunt Meetings During the present week special meets will be held by 'the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty Hunt Club, the first being a qualifying hunt to be held to-morrow from the kennels at 2.30 p.m. On Wednesday assembly i will be at the R.M. buildings at 12.30 j p.m., and on Friday, Ngongotaha Post Office will be the starting point i at the same hour. ! i Drunk an3 Disorderly I For being drunk and disorderly in ! a public place a man was taken in 1 charge by the Rotorua .police on SatI urday evening. He will probably ap- ! pear before justices of the pcaee this J morning. Aggrieved Clergyman On Friday evening the Rev. G. G. Bell, Viear of Cambridge, spolce for two and a half hours upon the troubles of his parish. This was only an instalment of his case against the bishop. j Death at Te Puke ! The death of Mr. Samuel Jamieson is reported from Te ' Puke. The deceased gentlemen had been a resident .of the town for the last 30 years. Saturday's Cycle Race 1 The Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club's road cycle racing was ! continued on Saturday in heavy rain, ! tlie distance being 27 and a-quarter | miles. After regaining much of his '.handicap in the first three laps L. 1 Savage (scr.) retired at the eleventh , and R. Melton (45secs) won from S'. | Howe (3mi*ns), by about one minute. 1. In order to raise funds, which are to be expended for the purpose of advaneing Rotorua, a series of enter-,-tainments is now in progress at . "Dixieland Ballroom." The initial evening of the series took place on Wednesday last, when a fine gathering had a i thoroughly enjoyable night's enter- ! tainment. The series, which is spon-j-sored by the Rotorua Advancement i Committee, will be continued on tlib i following dates: Wednesday, July 1 26 and August 2, 9, 16 and 23. A popular price of admission is arrang- • ed. Further particulars appear in the advertisement columns of this paper. DancelFor Boys' JBand 1 An excellent evening's entertainment is promised at the Majestic Ballroom on Wednesday, July 26, when the committee of the Rotorua Boys' Band has organised a dance and grand 500 tournament with the object of raising funds to clear off the balance still owing on the instruments ! of the band. The supper arrangements I will he in the capable hands of Mesdames Kelly, D. W. Steele, Winslade and H. C. Smith so that the success of the programme is assured. Card players in the 500 tournament are offered excellent prizes, among them a dressed turkey, a sack of potatoes, an iced cake and a cannister of tea, all of them donations. Jazz and old time dancing to Epi Sh'alfoon'S Melody Boys' Band will he augmented by waltzes and lancers led by players of the Municipal Band under Lieutenant Tregilgas. This should prove a very popular innovation with dancers for these swinging measures are excellently led by brass band instruments.
